Romans 8: 19

Hebrews 2: 5

Mount Sinai in Arabia, which is currently known as Mt. Jubal Allaz, in the Sinai desert, has been discovered in the past 25 years, cordoned off by chain-link fences, as an archaeological site. The mountain is noted as being black, in a desert of red rocky terrain for miles upon miles. When the black rocks of this mountain were tested, it was determined to be the result of intense heat, indicating the surface of the rocks were, in essence, glazed by heat.

Exodus 19: 18. “Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.”

Hebrews 12: 26 “And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, ‘Yet once more I will shake not only earth but also the heaven.”

Hebrews 12: 27. “This expression, ‘Yet once more’, denotes the removing of things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Hebrews 12: 28-29. “Therefore, since we have a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence, and awe; For our God is a consuming fire.”

2 Peter 3: 10-13 “But the day of the LORD will come ‘like a thief’, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up….V. 13. “But according to his promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.”

Revelation 21: 1-5 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away”,….”And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold I am making all things new.’ And He said , ‘Write, for these things are faithful and true.'”

Romans 8: 18. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed.”

This last warning from this writer to the Hebrew believers, is really an encouraging word of remembrance of their historical past, and expressing their privileged citizenship in a permanent kingdom, which is not able to be shaken. Their gratitude naturally should be expressed in obedience to holiness, and service exposing the things that accompany salvation.

The passing things of this earth, and the continuum of time in which we live, render all earthly matters to a temporal realm. God, and the new life we have through Christ, elevates us out of time, into the eternal realm. Therefore we need to focus on the eternal, the spirit not the flesh. As an example, in Genesis, Joseph, the dreamer, was able to survive and excel in all situations that came his way, because he had an eternal view, he saw beyond the time continuum to the everlasting.
