When I read or hear the words…”God as High Priest”, I don’t think about a single verse, I think about an entire book…the Letter to the Hebrews.  I think about the end of Chapter 4 in this letter  through Chapter 10…about Jesus as our high priest.  I encourage you to read the entire letter but if you find yourself short on time, here is the introduction to this subject:  Hebrews 4:14-16

Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Why do we need a High Priest…why do we need Jesus?  One simple answer would be that God is holy and we are sinners.  We are not promised a life without obstacles and while we can certainly try and slog through life on our own, having Jesus as our High Priest allows us to live daily at the foot of the cross!  Take time today to reflect on Jesus as High Priest in your life.
