Isaiah 24-27

Summary:  Cosmic judgement is passed on the earth (24:5-10)…A spared remnant rejoices (24:14-16) in God, but even within this people traitors exist (24:16)…The earth itself consumes it’s wrongful inhabitants (24:17-23)…This struggle goes on for sometime (24:22)…After judgement comes a celebration and feast for God’s people (25:6-10) where death (25:8) and tyrants pride (25:11) are eliminated…The location of Moab (25:10) is difficult to pinpoint.  Suffice to say it’s near, but outside, of Israel…All of this is God’s response to “the poor” (25:4-26:1)…A prayer is made by Isaiah (26:7-19) confessing Israel’s shortcomings (26:17-18) at the same time trusting God for His grace (26:7-10)…These last verses return to the theme of judgement (26:20-27:13)…All the while, God looks after (26:20, cp. Ex. 12:22-27) his vineyard Israel (27:2) which has been formally pruned (Isa. 5:1-10)…

Commentary:  Biblical prophecy, like history, is multi-faceted.  It occasionally reports events that have already happened and are going to happen at the some time…Israel endured something similar during their Babylonian captivity (Jer. 32)…God has judged the peoples of the earth in the past, and in the present to some extent…It’s not too much of a stretch to believe that more deserved judgement is coming…I wonder if the developed world believes in impending judgement now that God and Satan have been removed from it’s general thought and discourse?…The sources of Israel’s troubles, like our own, are both inside and outside of itself…This passage wold seem to preclude a long range “two state solution” to the Israel-Palestine conflict…Nowhere in this passage is it indicated that any of Israel will escape God’s judgement…No “rapture” here…I see nothing here that is too surprising.  The truth of it can be felt…The state of affairs on this planet has always been tumultuous…As Craig Herr has preached on many times one is either entering a crisis, enduring a crisis, or exiting a crisis…It appears we need help with the problems that we, ourselves, have authored…
