Just before these verses Paul writes about the grace of God at work in and through Jesus creating the church and providing gifts for God’s people to be the church.
Here, in our passage, the topic shifts to how followers of Jesus, who have received the grace of God, should live. There is a way of life for the follower of Jesus and there is a way of life that is of the world. The Greco-Roman culture was a pluralistic culture which was open to greed, corruption, licentiousness, impurity, all kinds of religions and gods, etc. Look around our society, in the U.S., and you can find our culture open to just about anything and everything. Everyone has their own story and way of life and who is to say what is right, good, and true…and so it goes. Yet we are called to allow Jesus to live in and through us in our day and time and place.
Here in Ephesians 4:17-29 we are reminded that there is a way of life that is good, true, and right; the way of a Christ-Follower. There is a way of life that gives life, joy, hope, and peace and that life is in Jesus Christ. There is only one Savior and Lord. The Good News is that this life is not just for us but is open and available to others and to all the world.
Today, let’s pause and think about how we live; that we may live for Jesus in all we do and say.
