“You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Interesting words that came out in 1944 in the American journal, “American Speech”.
Today’s Passage: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
Devotional Thought: Forming an opinion about someone or something based solely on what you or I can see on the surface could be misleading…upon a closer and deeper look there may be more than meets the eye. In Mere Christianity, C. S. Lewis wrote about Purity, “The instrument through which you see God is your whole self. And if a man’s self is not kept clean and bright, his glimpse of God will be blurred – like the Moon seen through a dirty telescope.” Jesus blesses those whose outer actions and words are in harmony with their inner self…whose hearts are in tune with the heart of God. What does this look like? C. S. Lewis concludes, “men (and women) united together in a body, loving one another, helping one another, shown Him to one another. For that is what God meant humanity to be like; like players in one band, or organs in one body.”
“There is an interaction between seeing and being. The kind of person you are affects the kind of world that you see. … And conversely, what you see affects what you are.” Simon Tugwell, ‘The Beatitudes’
