rejoice

What kind of day does today hold for you?  A good one?  Dreading it?  Something else?  No matter…the following will be sure to lift you up and strengthen you:

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.  Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.  Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”  (Philippians 4:4-9)

Devotional Thought:  Sometimes the trials and pressures of life make it almost impossible to be happy. But Paul did not tell his readers to be happy. He encouraged them to rejoice in the Lord.  What kind of day will you have?  Paul says it depends…depends in whom you place your trust.  So, “Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Prayer for Today:  “I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come?  My help comes from the Lordwho made heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.  He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.  The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.  The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord will keep you from all evil;  he will keep your life.  The Lord will keep  your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.” (Psalm 121)
